The newspaper she worked for was The Washington Post nearly a decade covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well being a basketball reporter at numerous Olympics. Nichols worked at TNT as a broadcaster who reported on NBA games that included regular season games, playoffs as well as All Star television broadcasts. Nichols also covered baseball, golf as well as Final Four broadcasts for CBS as well as TBS. This is the first time in the award's 42-year-old history that a woman was selected from the over 200 candidates.
